A gentle beginning to your child’s learning journey

Our Echidna Room is a vibrant, nurturing and engaging environment designed for children aged 2–3 years. At this stage, children are developing their independence, communication, social skills and understanding of the world around them.

We provide a balance of play, exploration, connection and intentional learning, allowing children to make choices, express themselves and develop confidence in their own abilities.

Learning Through Play

Play is at the heart of our toddler program. Children are encouraged to explore open-ended experiences, sensory materials, puzzles, blocks, books, creative activities and imaginative play.Through play, children develop early problem-solving skills, creativity, concentration and a growing understanding of cause and effect.

Building Independence

Toddlers are becoming increasingly independent, and we encourage them to have a voice in their daily experiences. Children are supported to make choices, help with routines, care for their belongings and develop confidence in doing things for themselves.

“I can do it” is an important part of our toddler journey.

Communication & Language

Our educators create rich opportunities for children to communicate, ask questions, listen and express their ideas. Through stories, songs, conversations, rhymes and group experiences, we encourage children to develop their vocabulary and confidence in communicating. We also support children as they develop their ability to express emotions, needs and ideas respectfully.

Creativity & Imagination

Our creative experiences encourage children to explore colour, texture, movement, music and different forms of self-expression. Children can paint, draw, create, dance, sing, build and engage in imaginative play.There is no single “right” way to create — we celebrate each child's ideas and individuality.

Friendships & Social Learning

Toddlers are beginning to develop meaningful friendships and learn how to interact with others. Educators support children to share, take turns, cooperate, negotiate and develop empathy.

We gently guide children through social experiences while helping them understand and express their emotions. Outdoor Adventures

Our outdoor environment provides opportunities for children to run, climb, balance, dig, explore nature and develop their physical skills. Outdoor play encourages confidence, coordination, resilience and a connection with the natural world.

Curious Little Minds

We encourage children to ask questions, investigate and discover. Simple everyday experiences can become meaningful learning opportunities — from observing insects and plants to experimenting with water, sand, light, movement and natural materials.

Rest & Wellbeing

We recognise that toddlers have individual rest and relaxation needs. Our educators provide a calm environment where children can rest, recharge and feel emotionally secure throughout the day.

Partnerships with Families

We believe strong partnerships with families create the best outcomes for children. We communicate with families about their child's interests, development, experiences and wellbeing, working together to provide continuity between home and the early learning environment.
